Watching thoughts could be fun if it did not affect us so much. It seems as if the mind fires more of these particles of energy than we are aware of. These thoughts average themselves to create our story – our attitude and the shape we present to the world. Our thoughts are creating our reality and keeping it consistent. If we choose to change our thoughts, we will begin to change that reality, so there is an opportunity to change, if we wish.
It may take some effort and some resolve. Mindfulness is part of the process. In any time of quietness when we gently focus our awareness on our breathing we have the opportunity to let thoughts that come into our consciousness pass through without letting them attach themselves. If they pass through and away there is no effect, as it is our attachment to the thought that gives them substance. In this meditation time, become aware of the breathing, the ‘in’ breath’ and the ‘out’ breath. If it is helpful, use the mantra ‘So Hum’ (so ‘ham – I Am) as you breathe) Also become aware of moments of mental quietness. It is a first step to knowing who you are. Then if a thought arises, be strong and let it go. Some thoughts are very sticky. Accept this as part of the game, ease away any attachment and return to noticing the rhythm of the breath.

Free To Be Me
This is a lovely thought. Perhaps it is something we do seek in the world around us, traveling, doing new things, seeking new experiences but often they do not fully satisfy us. There is an inbuilt desire to look further. Even so we all carry subtle weights and obstacles that often pop up, unexpectedly or in those half-awake moments when the ‘what ifs, the ‘should haves’, and the ‘shouldn’t haves’ creep in and drain our energy. They don’t actually exist. They have no reality except in our own mind, but they persist. They limit our freedom and can start to create a reality that we definitely do not want. Mindfulness is the practice of ‘training’ the mind. What we are doing is bringing our body, emotions and mind into harmony, bringing our scattered parts together so they work in balance. The meditation takes us into bringing our body-mind into harmony with the unseen energies, our life force, our spirit. We move towards remembering who we really are, bringing a freedom to be deeply secure and flexible, ‘Free to be Me’. It is good if we can go with the flow of life. There will be many changes on our way in many different parts of our life. An anchor point and a ‘home base’ are very important for us. An anchor point may be something that holds us in an opportunity. It may be work or a relationship. These can change, perhaps not in ‘location’ but may be in ‘substance’.
A home base is more about what is going on within us and will often affect our anchor points. It is all to do with our attitude, the way we see ourselves and the way we see what is going on around us. The more positive the attitude the more positive will be the flow of our life. Gratitude is powerful in bringing us to the good things, a strength to overcome the debilitating effect of fear. Be grateful for the small things, bring the feeling of a good experience to mind, let go the actual event, let the feeling generate the feeling of wholeness within. It is never too late to explore new pathways or activities to enhance our life – We have all this life ……. but we don’t use it! Living things move. Movement is part of life. Although we may move around, often we can feel stuck. We focus most of our attention on our outer world, and that is important as we are community beings. It is the inner journey that can give clarity as to which direction would serve us best. It is challenging, as we can be very distracted by our work, family and friends and even more distracted by what is going on in our world. Creating short times of quiet, stepping away from the outer situation will lead us towards an inner quietness of knowing. Slowing down the ‘monkey mind’, noticing what thoughts are running through the mind and slowly guiding our thoughts to being positive will bring a quietness and clarity. In turn this will flow on into our well-being. These meditations are guided. That means that the words draw our attention away from the unwanted random thoughts. In the quiet times hold the attention on the quietness and relaxation. We offer the Mantra So Hum which is a mind-tool that can be fitted to the breathing to help explore possibilities. GM262 Make a Difference
There are some things that cannot be hurried. Real changes must happen from within. Changes that happen within people create the changes that we know humanity needs, and it begins with you. It may seem infinitesimally small and we are in disbelief that it is even worthwhile, but a simple act of genuine non-invasive kindness has a ripple effect. lt is slowly happening. People and groups and institutions are seriously looking at this. The movement has started but humanity is so complex there is no quick solution. So, step by step, baby steps. Find that inner quietness, strength, that confidence and that patience and practice random acts of kindness. lt could make your day. Make a difference! We can change our shape. We do so when we are kind, loving, angry or judgemental. Sometimes we forget to return to a shape that will be of benefit to us and leave the moment better for passing through. Those moments are cumulative and combine to create the state of the world.
We may not change the world but we can shift ourselves by shifting our thoughts. To do that we connect to our inner reserves. Calming our mind with our mindfulness and in our meditation, we draw on those reserves and feel the energy in which we are immersed. Feel it, become aware of it, use it to soften the edges and leave the moment better for passing through it. Seeds of Gratitude
There is a very useful energy in gratitude. Although we may experience it we often accept it and move on. We have the tendency to forget the good things that have happened to us, those experience that brought us joy, the important things. We are encouraged to move on to the next experience or the next possession which promises happiness. It is very beneficial if we can bring to mind the feelings we had in a past experience. It is the feeling we look for, not the event. Bring that feeling into the present moment. Focus on the delight and in the quietness of self, let it expand. It may need a little effort as we tend to outweigh our joys with worries. With fresh eyes we may find there are good things around us, simple things that we can enjoy. Building up gratitude will make a difference, not only for us but for others on the way. Particles of Kindness
Kindness is an energy, a transforming energy. It is subtle and non-invasive. It may not seem very much but it is love in action. In learning to be kind to ourselves we can let go of those many “what ifs” and those “should haves” and “shouldn’t haves” and bring ourselves into who we are now. Being kind to ourselves is to be non-judgemental and accepting of ourselves and we will see others in the same way. Then that kindness will emanate from us and the subtle, non-invasive transforming energy will be spread. We may not see the effect very often as it is cumulative but is there. That is so important in today’s world. Kindness is seriously lacking. Every little bit counts. But first be kind to yourselves. Sow those particles of kindness. Guidance coming from the past refers to a quiet place within for refreshment and clarity. In our modern time, people under great stress have found and drawn on this energy within. The challenge before us is to find the resolve to create those moments of quietness. At first it may seem pointless with so many urgent matters demanding our time. But know that the energy we draw on to look outwards is coming from within. Time for quietness and mental stillness strengthens that connection. It also gives opportunity to deepen the link so that more of that guidance is available to us.
That task is not easy for most. Guided Meditation in many forms gives us the necessary distraction to draw us away from our mental agitation towards that place where “Still Waters Run Deep”. Breathe It All Away
We can become quite scattered, quite disconnected within ourselves. Finding a technique or creating time to ‘fall back’ into our inner reserve can be more than helpful. It is not something people of this age find easy as there are sometimes just too many things going on. Breathing can be a useful tool. We overlook the fact that not only does it support our life, but the breath draws in energy. Adding this to our creative mind we can bring our attention to the ‘in’ breath drawing in our ‘life’ energy and the ‘out’ breath a releasing, letting go, detaching. We use this technique in all our meditations. The rhythmic pattern and feeling the moving breath is a very powerful mind tool we use to draw the mind away and towards a quietness, allowing us to gain strength, energy and clarity to manage our days. It may not be instant but it is a useful pathway for us. |
